Winter Club Travel Team

In addition to our instructional clinics and leagues CCFHC offers club travel teams during the winter and spring.  Indoor field hockey is played during the winter months and is sanctioned by USA Field Hockey.  Most of the top club teams across New England offer the indoor style of hockey during the winter months.  Indoor hockey will  help develop a unique set of skills with direct carryover into the outdoor game. Indoor players have stronger technical skills, improved reaction time and a stronger strategic understanding of the game.  If a player wants to compete in tournament play or aspires to play field hockey at the collegiate level then you should consider the travel team path.
For those not familiar with indoor hockey the video below is from the U16 National Indoor tournament where the best clubs from across the US meet to complete.

Winter 2019

We expect to field teams in each age group that will practice and compete together in tournaments.  The number of teams per age group below may vary depending on the number of players.
U10 – 1 team          U12 – 1-2 teams   U14 – 2-3 teams     U16 – 2-3 teams     U19 – 2-3 teams
Age group is determined by the age of the player as of December 31, 2019.  All players must play their age group.  If my daughter is age 11 on December, 31 she would be U12.  If she was 12 on December 31 she’d be U14.
Each team will attend 2-4 tournaments/play dates with 10-15 practices.  Exact practice and tournament dates are still being finalized.
We will be sending at least one team per age group (U10/U12/U14) to the National Indoor Tournament (NIT) in Pennsylvania.  We will also be sending at least one team from the U16 & U19 age group to the National Indoor Tournament qualifier (NITQ).  Finishing in 1st or 2nd place would mean we advance to the National Indoor Tournament in Pennsylvania (U16) and Richmond, VA (U19).

Each age group will have two 2-hour tryouts (90 min for U10).  Our coaching staff will evaluate each player individually across a number of skill disciplines.  We will  select 9-10 players plus one goalie per team.   Selected players & parents will be contacted post-tryout by email.
Team Selections
Depending the number of players trying out we may not be able to select every player to a team.   The number of teams per age group will be determined after tryouts.  However, our goal is to provide every player with a playing opportunity if possible.
Indoor hockey players use a special stick and left-handed glove.  Neither are required for tryouts, but will be required if selected. Sneakers/indoor field hockey shoes are fine.
Goalies:  if you don’t own your own gear and currently play for a school team please ask your coach if you can use your goalie equipment for the tryout.  Goalies will try out with their age group.
Practice location is based on age group.  Our U10 team will practice at Compass Athletics on Saturday or Sunday mornings (dates are TBD).  All remaining teams will practice at Barnstable High School on Saturdays or Sundays from November through February.

Our main objective is to develop competitive club teams at each age level.  We will be selecting the players that can best help the club compete and excel.  Players will improve quickly both individually and as a team.
  • All players will be expected to come to practice mentally and physically prepared to push themselves.  With this being a selection based team we are looking for talented, hard working, serious players that understand the expectations.
  • We are requesting parents not stay to watch tryouts and practices.  This eliminates any potential distractions.
