In addition to our instructional clinics and leagues CCFHC offers club travel teams during the winter and spring. Indoor field hockey is played during the winter months and is sanctioned by USA Field Hockey. Most of the top club teams across New England offer the indoor style of hockey during the winter months. Indoor hockey will help develop a unique set of skills with direct carryover into the outdoor game. Indoor players have stronger technical skills, improved reaction time and a stronger strategic understanding of the game. If a player wants to compete in tournament play or aspires to play field hockey at the collegiate level then you should consider the club travel team path.
For those not familiar with indoor hockey the video below is from the U16 National Indoor tournament where the best clubs from across the US meet to complete.
We expect to field teams in each age group that will practice and compete together in tournaments. The number of teams per age group below may vary depending on the number of players.
U10 – 1 team U12 – 2 teams U14 – 2 teams U16 – 3 teams U19 – 3 teams
Age group is determined by the age of the player as of December 31, 2018. All players must play their age group.
Each team will attend 3-4 tournaments/play dates with 9-10 practices.
Our top Blue team in U12/U14 will attend the National Indoor Tournament (NIT) in Pennsylvania. The U16/U19 Blue team will attend the National Indoor Tournament qualifier (NITQ) and must finish in the top 2 in their pool to advance to the National Indoor Tournament in Pennsylvania (U16) and Richmond, VA (U19).
Tryouts and team selections will be held Saturday, October 20 (U12, U14, U16, U19) at Barnstable High School’s field house and Sunday, November 4 (U10) at Compass Athletics. Please contact us if you have conflicts.
Tryout cost: (U10 ) $30 (U12-U14-U16-U19) $40
Each age group will have one 2-hour tryout (90 min U10). Our coaching staff will evaluate each player individually across a number of skill disciplines. We will select 9-10 players including goalie(s) per team. Selected players & parents will be contacted post-tryout by email.
In an effort to give more players an opportunity to participate on our travel teams we’ve added 5 additional teams this year. Despite adding teams there will be players that are not selected to a team due to sheer size of turnout. As we continue to grow as a club we will always look to add teams and provide more players the opportunity to participate. We will host separate tryouts in the spring (March/April) for our spring club teams.
Indoor hockey players use a special stick and left-handed glove. Neither are required for tryouts, but will be required if selected. Sneakers are fine.
The tryout schedule is below. Due to space limitation we will be placing a limit on the number of participants we can accept so sign up early.
Goalies: if you don’t own your own gear and currently play for a school team please ask your coach if you can use your goalie equipment for the tryout. Goalies will try out with their age group.

Our main objective is to develop competitive club teams at each age level. We will be selecting the players that can best help the club compete and excel. Players will improve quickly both individually and as a team.
All players will be expected to come to practice mentally and physically prepared to push themselves. With this being a selection based team we are looking for talented, hard working, serious players that understand the expectations.
We are requesting parents not stay to watch tryouts and practices. This eliminates any potential distractions.
Tournaments are usually held on Saturday or Sunday throughout New England. Tournaments are usually multi-hour events where teams will play 4-5 games. All players should plan at attending each tournament.
Tournaments – schedule is subject to change
USA National Indoor Tournament (if applicable). This is the biggest tournament of the indoor season where teams across the US compete. Pending assigned schedule this tournament may require games Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon. This would require missing school Friday 2/15 if we are assigned the Fri-Sun game schedule. The following week starting Monday 2/18 is school vacation week. Carpooling will be available if needed.
Additional expenses (only if needed): game uniform 2 colors (approx $150) , team game socks, reversible pinnie ($25), USA Field Hockey membership (required to compete in tournaments), indoor stick, left handed glove, mouth guard. No goggles required.
Indoor season tuition will be spread into 3 separate payments from November-March. Any separate expenses (uniform, pinnie etc) will be invoiced individually.
Our invoicing system will allow you to save your credit card information securely. This feature allows the payments to be charged on the invoice due date.
Step 1. Register for tryout
Step 3. Invoice will be emailed to each parent in 24-48 hrs.
Step 4. Bring stick, shin guards, mouth guard water and a reversible pinnie of any kind if you have one (don’t worry if you don’t).
