Please note that the tryout schedule and time, as well as practice dates and times have been changed. Tournament information has also been updated.
Starting this winter Cape Cod Youth Field Hockey will begin it’s transition over to Cape Cod Field Hockey Club. This will include the establishment of club level teams across each age division that will practice as a team and compete in regional tournaments throughout the year. The two major seasons in club hockey are winter and spring. These club teams will exist side by side with our existing instructional clinics, leagues and private instruction that have been in place over recent years.
This winter we will be establishing an indoor field hockey program at the club level. Indoor field hockey is a style of hockey played all over the world and is sanctioned by USA Field Hockey. Most of the top club teams across New England offer the indoor style of hockey during the winter months. Indoor hockey will help develop a unique set of skills with direct carryover into the outdoor game. Indoor players have stronger technical skills, improved reaction time and a stronger strategic understanding of the game. If a player wants to compete in tournament play or aspires to play field hockey at the collegiate level then you should consider the club team path.
Below is a video from the U16 National Indoor tournament where the best clubs from across the US meet to complete.
Tryouts and team selections will be held November 4th & 5th. Each team (U12, U14, U16, U19) will practice on Saturday or Sunday at Barnstable High School from mid-November through February. They will also compete in 3-4 tournaments/games across MA.
Our main objective is to develop competitive club teams at each age level. We will be selecting the players that can best help the club compete and excel. Players will improve quickly both individually and as a team.
All players will be expected to come to practice mentally and physically prepared to push themselves. With this being a selection based team we are looking for talented, hard working, serious players that understand the expectations.
We are requesting parents not stay to watch tryouts and practices. This eliminates any potential distractions.
Practices will be 2 hours long and held on weekends (Sat or Sun) at Barnstable High School.
Tournaments are usually held on Saturday or Sunday throughout New England. Tournaments are usually multi-hour events where teams will play 4-5 games. For the first season we are aiming to keep to tournaments in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania pending qualification for the National Indoor Tournament. All players should plan at attending each tournament.
Tryouts – Barnstable High School field house
Tryouts will be held Saturday and Sunday (November 4 & 5). The cost of the tryout is $40/player. Each age group will have one 2-hour tryout. Selected players & parents will be contacted post tryout by email.
Our coaching staff will evaluate each player individually across a number of skill disciplines. We will select 10-11 players including goalie(s) per team. Players that are not selected will still have the opportunity to register in all of our other winter programs. We will host separate tryouts in the spring (March/April) for our spring club teams.
Indoor hockey players use a special stick and left-handed glove. Neither are required for tryouts, but will be required if selected. Sneakers are fine.
The tryout schedule is below.
Goalies: if you currently play for a school team please ask your coach if you can use your goalie equipment for the tryout.
